Joe Barbaro - SEE

Se 1:
Decisiveness: Joe shows little regard for the lives of others, particularly when it comes to enemies, such as rival gang members, people in debt, or those who cross him or Vito. He is quick to use violence without hesitation or remorse, showing a lack of empathy for his victims. He doesn't demonstrate fear or even backing down from arising conflicts, a common Se base trait.

High Energy: Joe is a character with plenty of energy for interaction with the material world, another essential trait for SEE. Whether it's in bar fights or parties, he is very comfortable in dealing with the world and what it has to offer, often with a bold and confident manner. His casual attitude toward hurting others in mafia jobs or his energy to participate in multiple situations from parties to risky endeavors highlights this.

Pragmatic Politician: Joe can be described as a politician type of character, a charismatic but sometimes controversial figure, focused in dealing with pragmatic over visionary details. He is focused on practical, short-term solutions rather than abstract ideas or future possibilities, showcasing SEE's preference for operating on Se rather than Ne. He operates in a world of quick fixes, making deals, and taking immediate action, which aligns with the SEE's more down-to-earth and results-oriented nature.

Ingrained Volition: Joe's loyalty and volition in the game is observed to be inward rather than outward. For example, his sense and desires for accomplishment arise more as internal desires that must manifest in the physical world through his volition, rather than a desire to "fit in" society or to adapt to outside, popular goals. While he is close to Vito, he shows a willingness to abandon or betray others if it benefits him or if it serves his survival. His ability to turn on people he once worked with reveals a cruel, opportunistic side, stereotypical of SEEs which can influence their volition on others, not the other way around.

Fi 2: Emotional Reactivity: Joe is highly emotional and reactive, often wearing his emotions on his sleeve. He doesn't hide how he feels about people or situations, whether it’s joy, anger, or frustration. His responses are immediate and intense, showing minimal restraint when it comes to expressing his feelings. This impulsivity aligns with SEE's tendency to act on emotional reactions with little inhibition. For instance, Joe will aggressively lash out or make impulsive decisions based on how he feels in the moment, rather than considering the long-term consequences or taking on a more rational approach.

Volatile Relationships: Joe's relationships are often turbulent, reflecting the SEE's inclination toward unstable, temporary connections. He deeply values his friendship with Vito and shows fierce loyalty, yet his ethical response can be erratic. Joe may be friendly and jovial one day, and explosively violent the next. His moral principles are often extemporaneous, flexible, acting on gut feelings rather than a consistent ethical framework, leading him to treat people with kindness or cruelty depending on what he feels at the moment.

Moral Leadership: Joe tends to see himself as a natural leader inside his relationships, a classic Caesar trait. He often takes charge in situations, making decisions on behalf of the group and expecting his judgment to be respected. SEEs, like Joe, prefer to lead and feel more comfortable in relationships where others acknowledge their authority or social dominance. However, Joe’s leadership is more impulsive than calculated.

Antagonism and Conflict: Joe's ethical volatility often leads to quick antagonism with others. He can be convivial and friendly but can easily flip to antagonism if he feels disrespected or threatened, showcasing how SEE can easily charm others, but also easily create conflicts. Joe’s internal network of friends and enemies is fluid, reflecting SEE's tendency to quickly categorize people into "friends" or "enemies" based on how they feel in the moment.

Joe’s behavior in Mafia 2 mirrors the SEE's creative use of Fi. His emotional reactions guide much of his decision-making, his loyalty is driven by intense, fleeting feelings, and his leadership in relationships is more about emotional authority than calculated dominance.

Ne 3:

Sensing over Intuition: Joe is not particularly formidable in dealing with abstract concepts or hidden possibilities. Joe is more focused on immediate sensory details, which is the main perception tool he uses to understand what's happening around him. He is more focused on tangible results and immediate actions. While he can sometimes generate explanations or ideas about what might happen in the future, he finds this kind of thinking is somewhat forced, showcasing how SEEs often use Ne but only when they have no other choice. They see it as less important or useful than direct, sensory information and action. Joe often dismisses complex plans or cautious approaches in favor of a more "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality.

Reactive Problem Solving and Testing the Limits of Others: When faced with challenges, Joe tends to deal with problems as they arise rather than preparing for possible future scenarios. His preference for action over contemplation means that he often addresses issues only when they become immediate, rather than anticipating them. This can sometimes lead to Joe getting into trouble because he hasn't fully considered all the possible outcomes of his actions.

Joe also makes an effort to evaluate unknown potentials, such as usefulness or loyalty in strangers,  especially when he can't get to know them better, something the SEE often struggles at. He creates temporary bonds for lack of opportunity of testing their limits and moral loyalty, based only on a "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" philosophy which often creates problems of betrayal for him and Vito in the long run.

Impatient with Complexity: Joe is capable of offering perceptive insights about people and situations in critical situations, but at a limited skill, showcasing his Ne role. He often relies on his immediate impressions rather than considering the deeper, underlying mechanisms. SEEs like Joe can recognize that there may be more to a person or situation than meets the eye, but they still trust their own experiences and gut feelings over abstract speculation.

Joe might sometimes show flashes of understanding about what might be motivating someone or where a situation might lead, but he quickly shifts back to focusing on the tangible and the practical. His capacity for Ne comes in bursts, since it is not his natural mode of operation.

Stress in Unpredictable Situations: SEEs, including Joe, can become stressed or irrational when faced with unpredictable situations or people who don’t respond to their usual methods of interaction. If a situation becomes too ambiguous or out of control, Joe may get frustrated, since he prefers to operate in environments where he feels he can exert influence through action. When others around him behave unpredictably or when situations spiral into uncertainty, Joe tends to double down on direct action or become impulsive.

Joe Barbaro’s Ne role function manifests in a supportive, unvalued capacity. He is capable of perceiving potentialities and offering intuitive insights when necessary, but at a very limited and weak light; he finds such thinking tedious and prefers to focus on concrete, immediate action with obvious, visible outcomes. His approach to problem-solving is reactive and grounded in the present, and he can become frustrated or distressed when forced to deal with too much ambiguity or unpredictability.

Ti 4: Chaotic and Unstructured Lifestyle: Joe exhibits the typical SEE disregard for structure and logical consistency. He thrives on impulsive actions and momentary desires, leading to a chaotic, often undisciplined lifestyle. Joe does what he feels like in the moment, rarely considering the long-term consequences or whether his actions make sense within a broader, logical framework. This lack of structure and planning often leads him into trouble, but he tends to shrug it off or deal with the fallout reactively.

For example, Joe lives a life driven by emotional highs and impulsive decisions—going out, drinking, chasing money, and indulging in whatever brings him immediate satisfaction. The absence of any real structure or adherence to routine is a hallmark of his weak Ti.

Resistance to Rules and Order: Another important trait of Caesar is his distaste for structural logic, in the form of rules or organizations. Joe has a natural aversion to rules, particularly those that seem to limit his freedom or require him to engage in meticulous, logical thinking. He avoids following detailed procedures or regulations and may become frustrated or even hostile when forced to operate within a structured environment, when it is mandatory to discard his own expression in the name of an organization. If someone tries to impose order on him or make him follow logical steps, Joe is likely to resist and rebel, as exemplified by Mafia II ending.

This is evident when Joe disregards the plans and instructions given by others, often rushing headlong into situations without thinking them through. His resistance to rules can lead to confrontations with authority or cause problems in situations that require a more measured and thoughtful approach.

Whimsical Decision-Making: Instead of relying on clear structures or logical options, Joe acts based on feelings and whims. He often makes decisions impulsively, without considering whether they make sense or are efficient. Joe’s actions tend to be driven by what feels right in the moment, rather than any long-term strategy or coherent reasoning.

For instance, Joe often jumps into dangerous situations without thinking, trusting his gut and relying on brute force rather than careful planning. This is reflects the SEE preference in lifestyle for chaotic improvisation over a more logical planning.

Frustration with Following: Joe becomes frustrated when he needs to follow rules or instructions, especially if those are in the name of a structured logic, such as an hierarchy, rather than what personally makes sense for him. If regulations or logical frameworks does not align with his personal desires, he lash out in anger or become rebellious. This can lead to feelings of helplessness and resentment because Joe doesn’t have the skills or patience to navigate complex systems of rules and logic, reflecting how SEE types worst nightmare is that of servitude.

Helplessness with Complexity: When faced with situations that require complex logical thinking or planning, Joe feels downplayed. He doesn’t have the patience or inclination to deal with intricate problems that require structured analysis, and he can become frustrated when forced to confront them. His preference for action and spontaneity makes it hard for him to understand or implement complex plans that rely on Ti-style thinking.

In summary, Joe Barbaro’s weak Ti shows up in his chaotic, impulse-driven lifestyle, his resistance to structure and rules, and his frustration when faced with deep logical issues, such as following orders and submitting to hierarchy or dealing with problems that require more complex logical thinking or even strategical planning. He relies on his guts, often making decisions whimsically and avoiding order and planning, which leaves him vulnerable in situations that demand structured thinking or adherence to rules.
