Jus Oborn - ILI
Ni 1:
Jus Oborn’s persona and musical themes suggest a more introspective and reserved nature, which aligns with the ILI's introspective focus. ILIs often prefer working on personal projects, like music or art, and spending time refining their ideas rather than being in the public eye. ILIs are known for their foresight and ability to see underlying patterns and trends, especially when it comes to abstract concepts. The themes in Electric Wizard’s music—dealing with the occult, existential dread, and cosmic horror—suggest a preoccupation with dark, abstract, and philosophical ideas, which is in line with the intuitive, abstract cognition of the ILI.
Te 2:
Jus Oborn prefers to deposit all his energy in his personal projects, such as the Electric Wizard band, while being more laidback and denying of other external societal demands. This is line with ILI's only interest being that of the pursuit of his personal goals, distancing themselves from more collective demands and responsibilities.
Oborn’s focus on escapism could represent a deliberate use of his Te to criticize life from an observer's point of view. By taking abstract concepts like despair or alienation from society and channeling them into Electric Wizard's music, he creates a sonic environment that not only allows for escapism from illogical reality but also as a way to criticize it, stereotypical trait in Balzac. The music serves as a way to both escape and confront society, reflecting how Te creative cognitive process works in INTps.
Lovecraft's influence in Oborn's artistic process, particularly in the realm of cosmic horror, resonates strongly with both ILI's Ni and Te. The themes of cosmic indifference, vast unknowable forces, and humanity’s insignificance are a perfect fit for the ILI's desire to navigate metaphysical spaces and identify the usefulness from those experiences—even if those systems are horrific and beyond comprehension.
Si 3:
Oborn’s preference for equipping his home with vinyls and other decorations that reflect bands he enjoys and inspired him, or horror movie posters and other artistic material, suggests a need to create a practical, nostalgic atmosphere where he can immerse himself in the physical world of music and art, his main interests. This complements the notion of Si role, where Balzac often has a need to materialize his intellectual interests in his environment.
Oborn’s use of marijuana as both a conceptual symbol, especially in the music of Electric Wizard, and a tool for escapism and recreation ties directly into ILI Si role, since it's more connected to his artistic creativity and imagination, often observed as an icon of rebellion against society for Oborn. Marijuana often provides a sense of physical relief, helping the user detach from stress and tension, while also enhancing sensory experiences like music, art, and ambiance. For Oborn, whose music and persona are deeply intertwined with escapism, marijuana could be a way to potentialize melancholic states, translating them into his art.
In Jus Oborn, Ni dominance leads him to focus on abstract, long-term visions and intuitive understanding of complex, often cosmic or esoteric concepts. His work in Electric Wizard reflects this, with a focus on philosophical themes and a preference for mental exploration over grounding himself in sensory details (aesthetics, harmony, stability) or living fully in the present, which would align with Si. His weak Si manifests as a discomfort with excessive mundane or routine sensory engagement, using the function more for basic needs and core survival, but without a constant use which would cause stress and fatigue.
Fe 4:
As an ILI, Oborn is naturally inclined to maintain a calm, rational attitude, often avoiding emotional extremes or dramatic displays of feeling, especially in public. This reservation can be seen in how he presents himself—more private, introspective, and focused on the logical, intellectual side of things rather than the emotional.
Because Fe is not a strong function for Oborn, he tends to express his emotions more indirectly, channelling them through his art rather than through social interactions. This is evident in the dark, intense themes of Electric Wizard’s music, which often explore cosmic horror, human unkindness, and existential dread—themes that convey emotional weight without requiring him to display those emotions publicly.
Oborn’s vulnerability in Fe also manifests in his discomfort with collective emotional atmospheres, especially when there is an expectation to adhere to group consensus or to "sell out" by aligning with popular trends for commercial success. For ILIs, Fe involves managing emotional energy in a way that resonates with others, which can feel inauthentic or draining for them.
The themes of unkindness, hypocrisy, and the darker aspects of humanity are common in Oborn’s lyrics. Just the same as Balzac was known for his dark humor, reflecting his defensive mechanism towards a more exaggerated emotional drama, Oborn demonstrates this vulnerability by criticizing humanity as a collective and their contradictory emotions (always submitting the same to logic) through his art.
